The difference between the classes of safety vests is based on the sum-total of observable reflective and background material mandated. Class 3 safety vests contain a significantly greater amount of reflective tape and high visibility fabric than class 2 vests. In addition, class 3 vests have sleeves where class 2 vests do not. Any job locations close to traffic traveling 50 mph or more, or in hurricanes or blizzards, class 3 vests are required.
