Choosing by American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Class
ANSI safety vests include three different classes. Class-1 vests are for lower risk level job, class 2 is medium risk level, and class-3 safety apparel is for the highest risk level.
If you are working in a construction zone where traffic is going less than 25 miles per hour and you are at a significant distance from the roadways, you can opt for a class-1 vest.
On the other hand, if you’re working within close proximity to traffic traveling at 50 miles per hour or more, you should select a class-3 vest or shirt.
The Right Vest for You
Surprisingly, there are many types of safety vests and shirts to choose from, including resistant vests, command vests, flame retardant vests, public safety vests, and more. They also come in different colors, such as orange and yellow. Most vests are also equipped with pockets where you can stash your supplies or custom laminated inserts with personalized screen printing.
It’s important to consider the right kind of vest for the work that you are performing. Emergency workers and tow truck operators are required to wear class-3 ANSI-rated vests while a sidewalk repair crew on a quiet residential block would only need a class-1 vest.
Choosing the right type of safety vest and apparel is crucial for your safety.
